Of the sixty Newham councillors only the six opposition councillors have supported the campaign to save Queen's Market. Not one Labour councillor has dared to publicly back the campaign. Support comes from the following:- From left to right the councillors are:-CllrSimeon Ademolake (CPA), Cllr Alan Craig (CPA) Cllr Denise Stafford(CPA), CllrHanif Abdulmuhit (Respect), Cllr Abdul Karim Sheik BEM (Respect) andCllr AsifKhan (Respect)CPA = Christian Peoples' Alliance

Sadly, the Executive of  NMTF is currently riven with internal conflict and in a state of near internicine warfare, consequently the organisation is inavery weak position. Developers such as St Modwen Properties are taking full advantage of this weakness. http://www.nmtf.co.uk

Don't just take our word for it, see Queen's Market for yourself !

Newham Recorder Watch Invariably the local paper gives the impressionthat this is not an important story. In the Newham Recorder (28/5/2008) an article entitled 'Market -the future' is tucked away on Page 44. It features two heavily cropped photographs of the St Modwen scheme. Little mention oftower blocks, one of which will be 31 storeys high,  a reluctance to show the visuals of the height of the building scheme and no mention of the recentlyrefurbished Queens' Pub that St Modwen want tosweep away. The report of Newham council signing a hugely controversial multi-million pound agreement with St Modwen has been buried onPage 38. (22/3/2006) The Stratford Guardian (23/3/2006) reported the story on Page 4. This pattern has been repeated time and time again. Our sustained pressure has resulted in a story on Page 7 in the Newham Recorder (29/3/2006), yet they still tucked another story away on Page 41. A photograph showing the political parties united in defence of the market was omitted. True to form the visit of George Galloway MP to the market was reported on Page 38 (5/4/2006) and the council motions regarding Queen's Market on Page 42. No mention was made of the packed public gallery. The Stratford Guardian covered the Galloway story on its front page and page 3 (6/4/2006). The NEF Report that has received extensive national press coverage finds itself on Page 34 of the Newham Recorder (31/5/2006) and yet in the Stratford Guardian it is on Page 2 (25/5/2006)News that the market traders are united in their opposition to St Modwen Properties Plc received a scant coverage on Page 37 ofthe Newham Recorder (30/8/2006) and a large article and photograph on Page 4 of the Stratford Guardian (31/8/2006)Reporting of Equally Spaced? - a highly significant Demos report commisioned by the Commission for Racial Equality was tucked away on Page 31(15/8/2007) - no surprise there then!
