How you can help

Help us safeguard Queen’s Market for future generations.

If you have 5 MINUTES to spare:

  • Tell friends and neighbours about Queen’s Market and the campaign.
  • If you’re local, think about getting involved. Help on the campaign stall, give out leaflets, come to a meeting. We welcome new ideas and anyone willing to join in. Email us to find out more friendsofqueensmarket@yahoo.co.uk
  • Sign our petition on the 38degrees site
  • Maybe you know someone who wants to set up a stall at the market?
  • MAKE A DONATION towards printing or materials costs for leaflets, banners etc. See our donations page.

If you have 1 HOUR to spare:

  • Shop at the market A 30 minute shop at Queen’s Market is a great way of picking up bargains, lots of fresh affordable food and a dive into different cultures. Open on Tuesdays and Thursday to Sunday 8am – 6pm.
  • Join us at a campaign stall at the market or collecting petition signatures. Email friendsofqueensmarket@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll tell you about upcoming events.
  • Distribute leaflets to homes and businesses for the campaign. Email as above.
  • Write letters to people you think might be interested in covering Queen’s Market, like the press, Members of Parliament, your favourite TV or radio station, a community group or celebrity.

Do you have one of these skills? You could be a great help.

  • Translate in a different language: You can translate leaflets or person-to-person at a campaign stall.
  • Do interviews. If you’re a confident person you might want to speak to the local and national media about the market.
  • Do you like digging? We often need this skill, eg investigating public policy, using Freedom of Information. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes in Newham.
  • Draw or design a leaflet or poster for the campaign.

1 DAY, or LONGTERM engagement with Queen’s Market:

  • Take a day trip to Queen’s Market and Green Street
Queen’s Market is open on Tuesdays, and Thursday to Sunday 8am – 6pm. Change your shopping habit by making a weekly trip to the market. The fruit and veg is fresh and ripe and it’s cheaper too! Green Street is a great place for household items, exquisite fabrics, clothes and more good quality food bought to you by local family-run businesses.
  • Set up stall at the market
We know that there’s people queueing up to take up stall at Queen’s Market. Why not try your luck in business at a traditional London street market? (Link to how to do this)
  • Study Queen’s Market and Green Street
See our Education resource  page. Many people have felt inspired to write about Queen’s Market as a research subject for their school projects, Bachelors degree, Masters and PhDs – they even got good grades for it! FoQM can help you to access the market, traders and local people and also help publicise your findings.

“55% of market users live with their children; in 54% of households at least some of these children are under 16 years old”
